It's a Wrap!

With Christmas just a few days away, I am doing a lot of wrapping. Since I have many teenage and college age family, I tend to give a lot of gift cards. I really dislike putting an envelope under the tree. I want to make it look a little more festive. So, I am using my Cricut.

I have said before not to spend money on things when you can make it easy enough at home.

The blue pillow box was quick to make. I used the Art Philosophy cartridge and Indian Corn Blue paper. I just grabbed a partially used sheet I had sitting on my desk. This pattern is on page 28 of the Art Philosophy booklet. Set the Cricut at 6 inches. Press font layer, shift, <flower4>. Follow the score marks to fold. I only glue the side. The ends just fold in easily. If you want to stamp it, make your folds then stamp it before making it into the shape. That's where I went wrong. I think this would have looked really cute with silver stars but I already put it together when I thought of it. After adding the gift card inside, I added an organza ribbon that I recycled from another package.

Isn't this cute?! I used the Artiste cartridge with Pear and Partridge paper. On page 68 of the Artiste booklet, this pattern is 11 inches so you do need a full sheet of paper. One cut. 3-D object, <birthday boy>. Fold along the scored lines. Of course, Artiste makes it easy with a separate guide showing how the 3-D objects are put together.

Crafting One Handed With Studio J

Earlier this month, I had surgery on my right hand. As a crafter, it has been very tough not being able to work on anything. During the first week after my surgery, I wasn't able to use my right hand at all. I sat with my computer on my lap, playing with it one handed, and watched movies on the TV. It was tough. I spent a lot of time on Pintrest which really made matters worse because I came up with more projects I wanted to work on but couldn't. I finally decided to play with Studio J, Close To My Heart's digital scrapbooking site.

I have done an entire album with Studio J. Even though I love to play with my paper- I love the feel of the paper and the ink on my fingers-- sometimes we all need to get a project done quickly. I think that is where digital scrapbooking is for me-- when I don't have time to play. Or in this case, when I don't have access to my crafting supplies. I just couldn't make my paper cutter work with my left hand.

The Studio J site is so easy. Upload your photos. Choose your paper (so many paper packets to pick from). Pick a layout style based on the number of photos you have. Click your pictures into place. Add title and journaling. Decorate. At every step, you can make changes in colors, placement.

On the above layout, I will add more journaling as a pull out behind the page to explain each of the little pictures, just as I would on a traditional scrapbook layout.

The above will actually be two different pages in my 2012 Project 365 Album. The program doesn't allow for a single page which is tough for me since I generally work in singles- not two page layouts.  However, I was able to find photos for two different parts of the album that would work with similar papers.

I'm pretty happy. I actually spent very little time on the pages. Most of my time was spent playing in my Picasa program sorting photos and deciding what I wanted to work on. I have a bit more of our life documented. I was able to get crafty and feel useful despite doctor's orders to sit and do nothing. Like I noted before, I'm pretty happy.

Going, Going,...

Close To My Heart's new Idea Book comes out in just a month and a half. Because of this, the company has announced what in the current Idea Book will be discontinued. I love that we are getting a bunch of new stuff and can't wait to see what is coming. I especially can't wait to play with all the new products. But it is also a little sad because it is a time for me to look at the list and buy what I want before it is gone forever. I can't delay any longer.

When I first started with Close To My Heart about a year and a half ago, this was my very first make and take. I still really like this stamp set- Remarkable Wreath. I can't tell you how many different cards I made with this set. It works for so many seasons and color schemes.
